#JusticeForTreyton

Justice for Treyton has become a moderate movement within these walls and in our stadium. Students are either rallying for him, against him, or not at all. After shouting “The administration can suck it” at the homecoming parade on September 24th, senior Treyton Baker received three days of in school suspension.

“I think he deserved the punishment for whatever he said at the parade, I can agree with that, but I feel like that’s where it should have ended.” said senior Tanner Yochum.

Shortly after the homecoming parade, the Springdale vs. Har-Ber game on October second was the catalyst that caused Baker to be taken down from leading the student section. With parents complaining about the way students were acting and some of the chants that were being shouted during the game, Baker received most of the heat, whether or not he was the one causing all the chaos, and was kicked off leading the student section.

Yochum started the movement behind Baker, with signs saying “Justice 4 Treyton” and “Student Lives Matter”, many have joined Yochum in his hunt for Baker’s ‘justice’, thinking he didn’t deserve his punishment or that it was too harsh for something that was a seemingly minor mistake.

“I made the signs because I feel like the punishment was excessive and I don’t think they realize that it made him feel like he couldn’t even go to the games.” said Yochum.

Despite there being constant debate over whether Baker was good at his job or not, many say he deserved what he got when his actions as leader have been considered.

“I think Treyton is a good guy and I think he is a great student section leader, but I also think he is someone who needs to control his voice and his actions, especially what he does around our underclassmen.” said student council president, Peyton Stewman.

Controversy over whether or not Treyton was bad at his job, or if he reacted in a well-behaved and respectful manner has been commonly discussed since he was kicked off leading pep rallies.

“I think he gave the administration no other choice from the choices he made. I think he might have been over-punished for what he did, but he handled it in a way that he didn’t really seem to desire to fix the problem, he just made it worse.” said senior Noah West.

Baker believes that his punishment was an overreaction from everyone, especially administration, being heated over his previous mistake, though he’s still hopeful.

“Complaints about the student section actually gave them a reason to finally remove me from everything. Maybe they’ll add me back one day, who knows.” said Baker.
