“We knew Mrs. Davis was really gone when the candy box wasn’t there anymore,” said sophomore Mattie Boortz.
Pre-Cal teacher, Meredith Davis took her candy box along with her job at Har-Ber High when she quit on Friday, Sept. 19.
Mrs. Davis has been a stay at home mom before her last job at NWACC. “She was so excited to come join our staff,” said math teacher Jamie Reed.
However, the excitement didn’t last too long.
“I resigned because I was not able to spend enough time with my four children. Without at least twenty extra hours in each day, I couldn’t give my best to my own children or my Har-Ber students,” said Meredith Davis.
While her kids may have benefitted from the resignation, her students did not.
“I wish she would’ve told us she was leaving. She should have prepared us for what was to come,” said sophomore Amanda Thattanakham.
A substitute filled the vacancy until the administration found a full time teacher.
“At first it was great because we had no test…and now we’re three lessons behind,” said Thattanakham.
Understood by about half of the students at Har-Ber High who take Pre cal, it’s difficult to comprehend the material given, especially without a teacher. The students are required to rely on directions given online, but this doesn’t help the other majority of students. For the ones who prefer personal teaching, tutoring is offered outside of class time.
“I have to take time out of my day to get tutored,” said Thattanakham.
Students in Pre Cal have been experiencing schedule issues and now they have a third math teacher in less than three weeks.
Math teacher Brittany Roland, who previously taught at ALE, started Sept. 25, taking over where the substitute left off.
The administration had interviewed about 3 people other than Roland.
“She has experience in the school district, studied all levels of math, and has great content knowledge,” said Dr. Brackett.
“Its kind of conflicting because we have to adjust to her new set of rules and ways of teaching,” said Thattanakham.
Through this transitions, students and teacher face it in a positive way.
“I hope she is nice and an all round good teacher,” said sophomore Wayne Hartmann.
“I expect students to work hard and show me respect even though I am new. I hope to see personal growth within my students also,” said Roland. “I’m so excited. Being as though i was called so quickly has given me no time for all the nerves.”
Even though Davis’ spot has been filled, her students,as well as the staff , will miss her greatly.
“She was really nice and I guess pretty cool.” said sophomore Wayne Hartman.
“I’ll definitely miss her quirkiness.” said Thattanakham.
“We already miss her but are pleased to have a new teacher starting in the classroom…We appreciate everyone’s patience in the matter.” said math teacher Melissa Waits.
