“All they do is talk smack about our program and now we finally have respect,” said junior goalie Ben O’Brien.
O’Brien and senior Dan Hartigan both defend the goal. Most recently O’Brien played the first half against the Springdale Bulldogs, and Hartigan played the second
“I was pumped and determined not to allow any goals and I shut them out in my half,” said O’Brien.
Undefeated for the first time in school history and defeating the cross-town rival are a few accomplishments the Wildcats have achieved this season. They stand 6-0, and seeded first in the state of Arkansas.
Heading into the state playoff the Wildcats received a first round bye placing them straight into the quarterfinals and facing their conference rival, Bentonville Tigers. The Wildcats had previously defeated them in conference play in penalty kicks.
“We should have had two PK’s. We just came out nervous,” said forward Miguel Caldera. “We lost 3-0, after winning six in a row and losing it was just heart-breaking.”
Now that the season is over, the team can start looking towards the future and rebuilding off the players lost. Three players off varsity are leaving including two starters.
“We aren’t losing too many players. Honestly, next year I think we’ll be better and probably the best team in the state,” said Caldera.
