“I think the kids got a lot out of it,” said Coach Wayne Hall. “I know some kids told me that this was the first championship they’ve ever been apart of, so as a coach it made me feel real good.”
March 07, 2013 marked the first outdoor track meet and also the first home meet of the season. The Joe Roberts Invitational was held at Southwest Junior High where the Wildcats came out on top by 10 points. This was also the first time in Wildcat history boys track won first place at an outdoor meet.
“To bring home the very first one is just like history with the school,” said Coach Hall. “I told the kids to cherish this moment.”
Junior Josh Frazier took the field to compete and place in shot put. After missing all of last season, Frazier returned to his first meet and was awarded first after throwing 43’ 9.5”.
“It felt pretty good getting first after missing all last year,“ he said. “I should be throwing around 50 by the end of the season, so I can win a state championship next year.”
Two other Wildcats were awarded first in their respected events. Junior Sain Mathew competed in six events and placed first in 400-meter dash with a time of 51.05. He placed top four in five events but didn’t place in the long jump due to being winded.
“Last year I was barely placing, sometimes I would get eighth sometimes I would get even worse,” said Mathew. “I double trained with Payton Stumbaugh’s dad and Coach Hall. It feels really good now that I can compete better than last year.”
