Three of top Lady Wildcats: Marleeya Montgomery, Samantha Weber, and Paige Redmond all had to leave the game due to injuries, and two starters fouled out against the top of the 7A West Conference Bentonville Tigers (18-2). There were no fouls called against the Tigers until the third quarter, which led the Lady Wildcats (12-10) to lose to say the least, 45-55.
“We’re still waiting on a MRI for Montgomery, if we get lucky we’ll get her back for state tournament,” said Coach Sandy Wright.
Early in the third quarter, the Lady Wildcats junior point guard, Samantha Weber went out with a left shoulder injury after being knocked down by a Tiger going for a screen.
“We might have won if we had her,” said Coach Wright.
Weber was forced to leave the game to get checked out by athletic trainers. Weber wouldn’t return from the locker room until the late fourth quarter, only to watch the game from the bench.
“I didn’t play for the rest of the game, which felt pretty terrible,” said Weber. “I wanted and asked if I could come back out and play, but they said no.”
The game became physical, and out of hand. Paige Redmond sustained a concussion in the third quarter, and was also forced to leave the game. She is still suffering from her concussion and left school early the day after the game.
“I went up for a lay-up and got fouled, but they (the referees) didn’t call it,” said Redmond. “The refs were horrible, because they didn’t call anything at all.”
An issue that Coach Wright and the rest of the Wildcats were fired up about was that they were not getting any calls, and the Tigers were.
“We should of put our pads on like we were getting ready for a football game,” said Coach Wright. “It was extremely physical.”
