Sophomores Chris Sandoval and Amanda Dillon prepared for Jan. 5’s indoor track meet, establishing goals to meet and times to make. Although it may seem as though the only difference between indoor and outdoor track is the roof covering their head, it is more than that.
“The major difference between indoor and outdoor track is that in indoor you run in an inside facility. The track is 200 meters; whereas, in outdoors it is 400 meters,” said sophomore Chris Sandoval.
In comparison to cross country, track is quite popular to high school students.
“Really track has somewhat of popularity. Since it’s a big part of the Olympics but cross country isn’t that popular to high school but it’s building its reputation up,” said Sandoval.
Not only did Sandoval work hard to prepare for the track meet, but also sophomore Dillon. Dillon has prepared for the track meet for the past eight months.
“My goals were to go to the finals and make a new personal record, which I made at 58.01 in the 400-meter dash, and I ended up getting fifth place overall,” said Dillon.
Although Dillon met her goals, she still felt as though things could have turned out better.
“I felt like it was good, and I wish I would’ve done better,” said Dillon.
Sandavol also had goals for the meet, though he didn’t have knowledge of the meet until the cross-country season ended.
“I’ve had six weeks to prepare for it because as soon as cross country season ended, I just began training. Plus I didn’t even know I was going to run one week later in Texas, but it was a fun experience,” said Sandoval.
Sandavol has two goals for his future in track.
“Be a state champion and go to Texas or Kansas relays,” said Sandoval.
