As sophomore Douglas Matthews steps up to throw his discus, he adjusts his footwork, and builds up all his energy to throw it as far as he can.
“When I step up there I feel kind of nervous, but at the same time I’m filled with excitement,” said Matthews.
The 7A state tournament was held May 3. Men’s discs weigh roughly 3.8 pounds(1.61 kilograms), and the women’s weigh 2.2(1 kilogram). Sophomore Gracie Bogle did better than she thought she was going to do.
“My results were good. They were higher than I thought,” said Bogle. “I’ve PR’d (Personal Record) in every meet.”
Placing second at state has landed Bogle a spot at the Meet of Champions at Lake Hamilton. This isn’t the only reason Bogle will be attending the Meet of Champions. It consists of technique and how you prepare before you throw.
“Before I throw I just think about what I’m gonna do and go to my coach for tips,” said Bogle.
Wind is always plays factor on every event, even discus.
“If the wind hits your right cheek, it’s good for right hand throwers like myself,” Bogle said.
