Just outside room D101 a chart hangs on the wall as a visual reminder to the Lady Wildcat softball team of their goals and what it will take to make them happen.
“I created it to kind of give them an idea of what it will take to get to Lady Back Yard,” said Coach Sandra Temple.
Not only was it intended to be used as a reminder but also as motivation for the girls on the team. The chart alternates from practice days to game days and is a calendar of what they should be doing.
“Each day we should be either working or winning,” said Temple.
The Lady Wildcats have a little breathing room with a secured first round bye as second seed.
“It’s kind of a sense of relief. The only thing is that we can’t let it get to us,” said Kylie Watkins.
However, they can’t get too relaxed.
“If we win our first game, then we will be facing one of the toughest teams in Arkansas,” said Watkins.
The tournament begins on May 10 and will be single elimination.
“It will be the same as our conference games as far as taking on one game at a time,” said Temple.
The pressure is building as they see the returning state champions on their schedule. Bryant has been state champs every year.
“We are just going to stay focused and play our game the way we know we can,” said Watkins.
If they pull through with a win against Bryant, then they will advance to the Championship game at Lady Back Yard May 11.
“This is a great opportunity for us to prove what we are capable of when we play as a team,” said Watkins.
