While some teams prepare for several games in advance, the Lady Wildcats tackle one game at a time.
“If we don’t take on one game at a time, then we won’t be where we need to be for state,” said Coach Sandra Temple. Each game is its own challenge.
“We just have to prepare for each game when it comes,” said Temple.
However, that is not the only difference between the Lady Wildcats and every other team. This team has a motivation that separates them from all the others.
“If we get to the championship game, they get to color the underneath part of my hair. And if we win state, they can color all of my hair,” said Temple.
“We already wanted to win state bad enough as it is, but when we found out we could dye coach’s hair, it was like the extra push that we needed,” said sophomore Kylie Watkins.
Although winning state is easier said than done.
“We need to stay consistent with our hitting if we want to win state,” said Watkins.
Hitting has been one of the several improvements that the Lady Wildcats have had over the course of the season. The end of their season is drawing close, but it isn’t over yet.
State will take place in Bryant May 10-12, and if the Lady Wildcats win, they will advance to the Championship game at Lady Back Yard.
The past week they had two wins, defeating Heritage 12-2, and Northside 13-6. The Lady Wildcats also knocked off Rogers 5-1 May 1, and will face Southside May 3, as well as state May 10.
