With six more conference games to go, the Lady Wildcats take on Heritage and Northside this week. As of now they hold a record of 6-2 in conference, putting them in good shape for the championship.
“If we win the rest of our games and beat Bentonville by more runs than they beat us, then we will be conference champs,” said sophomore Kylie Watkins.
With the skill and confidence, they believe they have what it takes.
“If we all stay focused and do our jobs, then I believe we are capable of being conference champs,” said Watkins.
Being conference champs would do more than put a trophy on the shelf.
“Winning conference is exactly what Har-Ber softball needs. It’s about time we get some recognition,” said Watkins.
Halfway through the season or not, there is always room for improvement.
“We need to take one game at a time and not look ahead,” said Coach Sandra Temple.
In this case it is the game against Heritage April 19, followed by the game against Northside April 20.
“We need to play to our ability and stay focused,” said Temple.
The previous week, the Lady Wildcats beat Fort Smith Southside 5-2, followed by two losses. They were defeated by Fayetteville 0-4, and Farmington 4-7, creating the first and only losses of their conference season so far. However, skills are still gained in game losses.
“We always play as a team, win or lose. We feed off each other and know how to help each other out if we are struggling,” said senior Hailey Hudlow.
