On Friday, March 30 the Wildcats played their cross-town rivals, Springdale High.
The Lady Wildcats shut out the Springdale Lady Bulldogs 3-0. The Lady Wildcats had successful team attacks, scoring their first goal within the fifth minute of the first half by junior Sara Lachance.
“It felt awesome to score the first goal of the game because it was proof of all of the team’s hard work in practice and during the game up to that point, “ said Lahance, a junior.
The defense had a great game defending their goal, only allowing the goalkeeper, Emma Gartner, to face two shots. Also, the team’s offense attacked the goal repeatedly causing the Springdale goalkeeper to save 17 shots.
On the other hand, the boys had a rough time competing against the Springdale Bulldogs, losing 0-5.
“Technically, I think we matched up very well with them, but when they scored that goal a minute and a half into the game, it took us down,” said coach Paul Crouch.
Although this loss does not count toward the 7A-West Conference standings, it helped the Wildcats prepare for the upcoming season, getting them ready for tougher teams they will have to face.
“This game was a much needed learning experience, that showed us what we need to work on and improve,” said sophomore Josh Rhodes. “It was a good opportunity to play a top notch team. We will take the exposed mistakes from Friday and fix them.”
