Having 22 players and 11 of them freshmen can say quite a bit about a high school team.
“We may be a young team, but we’re good,” said softball coach Sandra Temple.
The Lady Wildcats finished with an 11-1 run-rule win over Fort Smith Northside March 27, leaving them with a record of 3-0 so far this season for conference.
“Of course there will always be the age factor, but we have girls on the bench that are just as capable of playing as the starters,” said Temple.
The Lady Wildcats took an early 2-0 lead in the first, followed by three runs in the third and two more runs in the fourth. They weren’t quite finished yet as they wrapped the game up with a four- run fifth inning to incite the 10- run mercy rule. This was a great confidence booster as they prepared for their game against Bentonville March 29.
Every team hopes to improve each year, in one was or another.
“The difference between this year and last year is that we play well as a team. Not saying that we haven’t in the past, I just think that everyone has come together as a team better,” said senior Hailey Hudlow.
However, a good record doesn’t mean a flawless team.
“I would say our weakness right now seems to be our offense. We need to be hitting the ball better. Other than that we are pretty solid,” said Hudlow.
There are big goals in mind as they enter their season.
“I think this season will go well for us, we have a lot of talent and I think that this year is the year for us to win a lot of games,” said Hudlow.
Each conference win is one step closer to the championship game at Lady Back Yard.
