Hopes were still high; the vision of seeing the Lady Wildcats taking state blurred as the seconds ticked off in the March 1 quarterfinal game against Cabot.
Despite losing to the No. 1 seed team 71-49, the ladies reached a school best season record with a 22-10 season.
“Overall I’m pleased with what we did. I can’t complain about anything. I’m overly pleased with the team, and they did what we told them to,” said Wright. “I wish we could go back and do it differently. I thought we were well prepared.”
According to Coach Wright, they went into the game with a plan, but the plan did not hold against a team loaded with back court talent.
“It was a lot of pressure. If I could go back, I would take back all the turnovers that I got,” said sophomore Samantha Weber.
The Lady Wildcats knocked off No. 6 seed West Memphis in the first round of action 55-35. The win put Har-Ber up against the tournament hosts and winners of the 7A Central Conference, Cabot Lady Panthers.
In the opening possession, senior Jessica Olson bumped knees during a jump ball but kept playing through the pain.
“I tried to ignore the pain because I didn’t want to have to sit out of my last high school game,” said Olson. “We had a family atmosphere, and I’m so blessed that I could be part of it. Having the record was just the icing of the cake for us. It’s awesome being the first senior class to reach the 20-win mark.”
Additionally, two players, seniors Summer Morgan and Caroline Eubanks, were selected to the All State team. Olson made the All State Tournament Team, and all three made All Conference. Junior Caylee Wright was selected to the Honorable Mention State Tournament Team.
“It was a great season and this was an amazing group of talented young ladies. It was an awesome feeling to be a part of a team with such an amazing girls that worked together to reach this great accomplishment. I couldn’t have asked for a better team,” said senior Brooke Schneider.
