Soccer season has arrived and Lady Wildcats have been training hard. For the first time in history the Lady Wildcats beat the Bentonville Lady Tigers 2-1 March 7 in a preseason, non-conference match-up.
Despite the victory not counting as a conference win, the team is already off to a great start with a 3-1 record due to their dedication in practice.
“I expect the girls to work extremely hard at each practice. The harder we work in practices and build some consistency, the more it will show up in games,” said Coach John Marshall. “We will be in every game this season, and we have a very strong attacking unit and defense has lots of experience.”
The coaches have been focusing on individual improvements and have been conditioning a lot, practicing everyday after school. They have already had a few scrimmage games and have been competing hard against tough teams. Prior to the first conference game the Lady Wildcats have already played Conway, defeated 0-4, Siloam, won 3-0, and also Lisa Academy, won 13-0.
“I’m so excited and pumped about the season. We have a lot of potential because we didn’t lose any key players,” said junior Rachel Lovell.
Last year the Lady Wildcats had only a few seniors. So this year they had many returning players with a couple of additions, making them a strong, committed team. Some players on the team have been playing together for more than three years creating great chemistry on and off the soccer field.
“I think that last year our team was still rebuilding, and this year we have all the positions covered by strong players,” said Lovell.
