“Swimming those two events (500 freestyle and 200 individual medley) was new to me so in a way it felt like I was at my first swim meet again. Also since I now have times for those events it leaves the possibilities for what I’m going to do next year open ended,” said junior Ethan Wilson.
Wilson and the swim team competed in the 7A West Conference swim meet Feb. 15 where the women placed fourth overall and the men placed eighth. For a handful of swimmers this is their last meet of the season unless they make it to state.
“I’m proud of all the swimmers going to state, and hopefully I will be going next year,”
said sophomore Mason Geary.
The women’s swim relay team placed behind two of the best swimming schools in the area: Bentonville and Siloam Springs. The men’s team, unlike the women, didn’t do so well and placed sixth in their relay event.
No one finished first, but a couple of medals given to some of the swimmers who achieved third or second. The state championship for swim will be held at the University of Arkansas Feb. 24-25.
“I’m looking forward to state! It will be a lot of fun,” said senior Katie Huff, who in her first year on the team, qualified for state. Senior Kelsey O’Dell will also represent the Lady Wildcats at the state meet.
