“I should have won! I had the guy, but I just let it go. I’ve been working on some things that will make me better,” senior Ryan Harrison.
The team had five wrestlers go to the finals despite all their hard work and effort. Senior Dylan Collins was the only one to get first.
“I got a medal and they framed the tournament bracket and gave it to me,” he said.
Getting first place isn’t a cakewalk.
“ I wrestled four people as I advanced through the bracket. My final match was tough because I wrestled the defending state champion,” said Collins. “It meant a lot since he was defending state champion and it’s a really good indicator of how the state tournament will be.”
Harrison was one of the four to get second.
“I had to wrestle six people over the span of two days. I won five out of the six which landed me just short of first,” said Harrison.
Coach Nika West has really picked up the pace this season by winning yet another big tournament in Little Rock, AR. The wresting team placed first overall out of 29 teams that competed in this tournament.
The 4-hour bus trip gave the team some time for bonding.
Going to Little Rock Jan. 13-14 was very important because it was a big tournament, and it gave the team a perspective of where they are and if they have a chance to win state.
