The washing machine goes off and boys basketball manager, Hunter Stevens opens the door and switches all the basketball jerseys to the dryer. Stevens is used to doing chores such as these for the basketball team.
As manager, some of his many jobs include: wiping up wet spots on the floor during practice, setting up drills, and washing all of the teams practice and game jerseys.
Although being a manager can be time consuming and hard work, Stevens still loves it.
“I knew my skill level wasn’t as high as the other players,” said Stevens. “I came to help out with the team.”
Stevens previous basketball career consists of playing one semester on a home school leauge and one semester on the 9th grade team at Central Junior High.
“The first Har-Ber game was hard to watch because I wanted to play. But I know my position is important to the team,” said Stevens.
Junior Sydney Mick is the girls soccer manager.
“I didn’t have time to play soccer, so I wanted to help the team in different ways,” said Mick.
She played on the soccer team last year but says she likes being manager so far. As manager, her job includes setting up goals, putting cones out, and airing up the soccer balls.
Although team managers do not play on the field, they make serious contributions off the field. Managers are easily overlooked even though they put time and hard work into their jobs. They may play a different part on the team, but their roles are still important for a team’s success.
