As the buzzer sounds and echoes throughout the gym, the Lady Wildcat basketball team floods into the locker room, along with the smell and dripping sweat of hard work.
“A lot goes on in the locker room, and we’ve already made a ton of memories,” said sophomore Samantha Weber.
Locker rooms are typically famous for drama, drama, and more drama.
“The high-school team is way different than junior high. The only drama we have is what we’re gonna watch on TV,” said Weber.
With that being said, you can only wonder what goes on behind those closed doors.
“There is almost always a TV or music on,” said sophomore Kennedy Channel. “This often leads to random dance parties…but that’s our little secret,” said Channel.
It is much more than talking about plays or strictly preparing for a game.
“We don’t fight, and we have some very memorable conversations, but the best thing is that no matter what kind of day i’m having, I can spend five minutes in there and the craziness changes my whole mindset,” said Channel.
The chemistry between players on the court has a lot to do with the locker room.
“It’s just somewhere that we can bond and connect,” said sophomore Nicole Netherton.
You can’t expect to play a good game if there is tension between the teammates on or off the floor.
“I guess you could say we are one big family that all share the love of the game,” said Netherton.
All of the locker room bonding has seemed to pay off as the Lady Wildcats kick off their season with a 2-0 record.
“I’m excited for the rest of the season, and I love my team. We do a lot of bonding in that room for sure,” said Netherton.
However, once that buzzer goes off; it’s gametime.
