As Shakira’s Hips Don’t Lie by came to an end junior Dino Andrade stepped up to the starting line to compete in the 7A West Cross Country Conference Championship. It was held on Tuesday Oct 25,2011 at Rogers High School. The boys team placed second overall at the meet, an all time best for the team.
According to Andrade and sophomore Brett Workman the weather was perfect for a cross-country meet. The course as well always plays a factor in a runners mind but this wasn’t the case for the team.
“It was really flat so I enjoyed it, running on hills isn’t always easy,” said Workman.
The team placed second over all on boys team and fourth on the girls team. Andrade did a lot better than he did last year, he went from not placing at all to placing third with the time of 16:52.3. Workman didn’t do so bad either with a time of 20:22.9 ten seconds off his all time best.
Out of the girls senior Valerie Reina placed second out of the girls with the time of 19:26.3. The Varsity team will be going to state in Harrison, AR Nov. 5. Runners usually have something special or healthy they eat before every run, and after some runners just pig out.
“Before the run I ate two sandwiches and some fruit, and after I ate tamales,” said Andrade.
The 7A West Cross Country Conference Championship for some schools determines their qualification for state.
“If you did really well in the conference meet, it would help you qualify more for state,” said senior Elias Campuzano.
Only nine can run for the team at state and five alternates. Going in the team has never won state but they did place third last year, which was their all time best.
