“The best part about going to state was proving to everyone that Har-ber was still in it, and getting that second chance,” said senior Summer Morgan.
With the 2011 regular volleyball season wrapping up, the Lady Wildcats finished it off by going to the state tournament at Conway High School. They finished conference season with six wins and seven loses. On Tuesday, Oct. 25 the Lady Wildcats went into the first round of the state tournament against West Memphis.
“I think playing West Memphis first was a good game to start with because they were not as competitive, so that allowed us to get warmed up for the next game,” said senior Katie Huff.
Going into the tournament the Lady Wildcats were fourth seed in the west conference, while the Lady Blue Devils from West Memphis High School were fifth in the central conference. The Lady Wildcats were well prepared for the game. They won the first three games out of five in the first round.
The team continued to the quarter finals on Wednesday, Oct. 26. This game was played against the Wampus Cats of Conway High School. Conway was the first seed in the central conference, being undefeated. The Wampus Cats beat the Lady Wildcats in the first three games of the quarter final. After losing one game, the Lady Wildcats came home from the state tournament 1-1.
“We played so hard against Conway. I think that if we would have calmed down a little, then we could have made it farther in the tournament and won our second game,” said senior Summer Morgan.
Ending the volleyball season the Lady Wildcats finished with 11 wins and 12 losses, finishing sixteenth in the state. Although the seniors played their last games as a Lady Wildcat, they have many memories to look back on and cherish.
“I believed we worked hard this season to reach our goals and we were proud of what we accomplished,” said senior Kelsey Odell.
