In 2009 the Silver Stars lost runner-up by a tenth of a point to receive a banner.
“We all cried and knew we just had to work harder, we had a lot of competition to go up against, and we knew that ever since then we would just try harder and harder,” said senior Cheyenne Easley.
Then a sophomore, Easley realized just how close they were. Ever since then they have be ready to compete and make a statement.
The Silver Stars competed Oct. 29 in a preliminary competition at Bentonville High School. Bentonville was the squad who beat the dance team two years ago. Those seniors remembered the loss.
“As soon as I walked onto the floor, I got really anxious and excited all at the same time,” said Elissa Toney, a senior who was on the team as a sophomore. “I knew we all worked so hard, and I was ready to dance my heart out!”
During the prelims, the Silver Stars placed second in kick, and third in pom, leaving them with room to improve prior state.
“I was really excited that we did so good in pom, and kick, but I’m really surprised jazz didn’t place higher,” said Easley.
The Silver Stars competed against nine other teams around Arkansas, and they go to state and will compete against all divisions Nov. 12. They hope to grab state, or runner up to get a banner.
“Now that we know exactly what the judges thought, we can take their constructive criticism and take that to make us better,” said Easley.
