“Gettin’ Wildcat Tough!” was the theme for the basketball bootcamp. The boys basketball team went through a three week camp that helped build the foundation for physical and mental toughness. It also helped the team work on defensive philosophy.
“We now know how to overcome challenges and teams,” said sophomore Brady Blackwell.
During this camp members of the team worked every day on training and conditioning. For three weeks the team was on the court ready to practice at 6:00-7:15 a.m. doing drills. During first period the teammates grew stronger by lifting weights. After school they conditioned and practiced from 4-5:15 p.m.
“On a daily basis the boys worked hard. They had to push through ceilings that we have in our minds and raise it to achieve heights individually and as a team,” said Head Coach Adam Simmons.
Bootcamp really helped the team focus on the new season, about overcoming mental hurdles and not quitting.
“We expect nothing less than everyone’s absolute best, whether someone is in for 30 seconds or for two minutes. We need their absolute very best at practice and every night that we play,” said Coach Simmons.
Coach Simmons and assistant coach, Coach Jimmy Jester, coached the team during bootcamp. These coaches emphasized setting priorities priorities and having discipline.
“If you’re not going to quit through the hard times for three weeks, then you can certainly count on your teammates to not give up on you or the team in the game,” said senior Cameron Netherton.
The goal of bootcamp is for the boys to go through the process together. “Us against the World” is the motto for this basketball season. With this goal in mind, the team will rise to the challenges of a new season.
