Junior Spencer Jones breaks his personal best time in St. Louis.
“My main goal was to run under 18,” Jones said.
After he had crossed the finish line, he fell to the ground in exhaustion after running a 17:46.
“It felt bad, but I was glad to finished,” he said.
Jones was one of the 400 boys who competed Sept. 11. Thanks to his tremendous effort Jones now holds the #10 spot on the record board in the gym lobby.
Senior captain of the girls team also ran her personal best time and set a record. Mary Kirchner ran a 24:27.6, which is 35 seconds improved over her previous best.
“The run was a lot more fun because I made friends with a girl from Lebanon midway through,” said Kirchner. “When we cossed the finish line together, it was one of the best feelings of my life.”
Kirchner currently looks forward to the Chili Pepper meet Oct. 15.
“I can’t wait to run against my old team, Russellville,” she said.
Kirchner is currently the record holder for the outdoor 400 meter at 1:04.19 minutes.
