The golf team is winding down its season with a 7-4 record for the boys and and 1-9 record for the girls. Both teams are advancing to the qualifying matches. The girls play Sept. 22-23. The boys play next week giving them the opportunity to keep a winning record.
Leading the boys team is senior Zach Coats.
“Zach has had a very good season. He hasn’t played a bad match. He is a solid player all the way through and hits the ball long and accurate,” said golf coach Tim Aynes.
Coats has been playing golf for four years now and has won all of his matches this season except for one. His goal is to play on the PGA Tour and he has verbally committed to playing at the University of Arkansas. He will be signing this November.
Senior Evan Verucchi is the top player for the girls team.
“Being the number one player for the girls is cool. It’s kind of like a leadership position,” said Verucchi.
The girls only win came mid-season against Heritage.
“It was awesome!” said Verucchi. “Of course, we all love to win!”
Despite not having a winning record, the girls still had high goals for themselves.
“My goal this season has been to shoot in the 40s and hang with the other number one girls,” said Verucchi. “I just have to try my hardest.”
Junior Fabien Capo is a new player on the team. He is a foriegn exchange student from France and will be leaving next summer.
“Everyone’s nice on the team. Being on the team has helped me meet more people. It’s a good team and we have a good coach,” said Capo.
“The Boys team has potential to finish high,” said Coach Aynes. “It has been a little frustrating this season because not everyone plays well at the same time. This has definitely been our most competitive boys team ever.”
