“We are so ready to start playing. The season is what we have been working so hard for, and we expect great things this year,” said sophomore Anna Hudgens.
Both senior and junior varsity volleyball teams showed their enthusiasm on the court Aug. 25 in the season opener against Greenwood. The Wildcats rebounded 3-2 and won the game in five sets. All their hard work this summer became evident, as the team spent numerous hours training, conditioning, and bonding as a team to make this season the very best.
Training and conditioning started with the team attending a camp at Missouri State. Both teams showed great leadership and skills on the floor. The JV team came home as camp champions. After camp, the team had two practices per day for two weeks to help condition and train their skills learned.
The Junior Varsity team has recently had a new member join the volleyball family. Kele Luigs became the new assistant coach in May. After being a former volleyball player for the University of Arkansas, she decided to become a volleyball coach. Coach Luigs has a true love for the sport.
“I love Coach Luigs, and I am so glad she joined Har-Ber this year,” said sophomore Sydney Breathitt.
Last year, the varsity team finished 14-11 and third in the state. Since the varsity team is mostly seniors this year, the team leadership will shine and show throughout the season. The girls have a positive attitude going into conference play.
“We plan to make this year memorable by leaving everything we have on the court and hopefully that will lead us to take state,” said senior Jordan Frisinger.
