The varsity football team loads all of their bags onto the bus. They file in one by one until everyone is seated then the coach takes roll. After everyone is accounted for, they begin their 2-2 1/2 hour bus ride to Tulsa. The team members put in their earphones and start listening to music, mentally preparing for the game.
“I’m pumped and excited to start playing again,” said junior Nick Byrne.
As this is the first game of the season, this game will preview what fans will see throughout the rest of the season. The football program has earned the respect of the Springdale community, and furthermore created a reputation of excellence.
“We have the potential to be a great team this year. We just have to keep working hard,” said Byrne.
The football team has also had to reconstruct their offensive line due to losing all but two starters. Although the receiving and passing game is doing great, the new offensive line may have troubles.
“We don’t really have a weakness, but if I had to pick one section that we need to work on, it would be the offensive line due to inexperience,” said junior Peyton Squires.
Because of the unexpected difficulties this year, new leaders have had to step up to the plate.
“Evan Johnson and Micheal Fine have really stepped up as leaders this year,” said Byrne.
The changes have helped the teammates to become better friends off the field. The players hang out everyday after practice, after school, and on the weekends.
“We get together and play Black Ops and go to eat at Buffalo Wild Wings,” said Squires.
The team will continue to improve their bonds and plays for future games this football season. The program will continue to impress not only the Springdale community, but shock the state.
