The Texas A&M Aggies have high hopes in joining the Southeastern Conference and leaving their home conference The Big 12 behind. This will cause both conferences to have an odd amount of teams.
Officials of either conference are debating on adding and or dropping a team. As a result, this one move could disrupt the whole entire National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Going from the Big 12 to the SEC would be a good move for the Aggies because it would bring more attention to the SEC and hopefully expand the conference to the Texas market. Expanding the conference means better recruiting, more T.V. time, and will make the SEC more popular amongst fans.
Having already been rejected last summer, the Aggies continue their attempts to join the SEC, due to the diminishing Big 12 with Nebraska moved to the Big 10 and Colorado to the Pac 12.
Also with the SEC reconsidering the Aggies, it takes away a huge rivalry between the Texas Longhornes and Texas A&M. These two schools have been banging helmets since 1984, and with this move they will hardly if ever play each other.
For both teams this has been the longest running rivalry, they rank in the top five for having played the most rivalry games in NCAA history. They have played each other every year with the exception of six seasons when the Aggies field a team. With the Aggies considering leaving the Big 12 it takes away an enormous rivalry in college sports.
If Texas A&M joins the SEC and another team most likely follows, it would make the SEC a conference with 14 teams, making it the biggest college sports conference in the nation.
