In Game 1, The Wildcats trailed the Rebels 2-1 going into the bottom half of the sixth inning. Junior outfielder Brandon Jansen started the inning with a single to center.
That was followed by two basehits by the Wildcats, that allowed junior Preston Pianatlto to single in a run to tie the ball game at 2 a piece. A wild pitch then scored another run to give the Wildcats the lead. The Wildcat then added three more runs to take the lead into the seventh, 6-2. Junior Andrew Crook (5-3) picked up the victory for the Wildcats, while Daniel Young (4-2) took the loss for the Rebels.
In Game 2, the Wildcats busted the game open with an 8-run inning in the bottom half of the first. The Rebels responded with four runs in the top half of the second inning, but the hitting on-slaught by the Wildcats continued, led by Preston Pianalto who had four hits and 3 RBIs, as the Wildcats went on to take the victory, 18-14.
Pianalto (4-2) also picked up the win, while Spencer McClure (0-5) received the loss for Southside.
“These two wins were huge,” said junior Justin Cox. “This sets us up to control our destiny as far as the state tournament goes.”
