With three seconds left in overtime and the game tied at 43, Har-Ber’s senior forward Jason Holmstrom stepped to the free-throw line with two shots. The first clanked off the iron. Holmstrom had one more chance to give the Wildcats (2-18, 1-6) the lead, before Heritage (6-9, 1-5) got its shot to win the game.
“After missing the first free throw, I thought ‘man if I miss this one I don’t know what I’m going to do’,” said Holmstrom.
Luckily for Holmstrom, the free-throw fell through the net, giving the Wildcats a 44-43 lead. A time out was immediately called by Har-Ber coach Adam Simmons, to get the defense he wanted set up.
After the time-out, Heritage attempted a full court pass that fell into the hands of senior forward Jonathan Warner, who was unable to hit the shot at the buzzer.
Har-Ber defeated the War Eagles during their Color’s Day celebration, and finally garnered their first conference win of the season.
“We kept fighting,” Holmstrom said, “and we finally got a win that we needed so bad.”
