After the assistant to the boys’ basketball team, Coach Keary King, resigned from his coaching post, the team left with an empty hole in the team.
Dr. Danny Brackett asked Mr. Darrel Edmondson to be the new assistant coach to Coach Adam Simmons.
Mr. Edmondson had been the school’s previous junior assistant principal and retired at the end of the 2008-2009 school year. He has had previous coaching experience.
“He brings an extra set of eyes, makes everyone work harder,” said senior center Les Harrison. “He knows what he’s talking about. He knows the game.”
He coached the Fayetteville Bulldog basketball team from 1976-1989.
“He used to coach the coaches that are coaching at Fayetteville now,” said senior basketball player William Harris. “He has watched a ton of basketball and has coached a lot, so he is there to help correct fundamental mistakes and also provide inspiration.”
Although Mr. Edmondson was asked to take the job of assistant coach until the end of the semester, he really enjoys the time he has been given to coach.
“My favorite part of coaching is working with the students athletes and Coach Simmons,” said Mr. Edmonson. “I am here to help Coach Simmons teach the players and to motivate and inspire the players.”
