“Booties are life,” said senior Xiomara Caldera “I like them because I’m not as tall as I wish I was so wearing them makes me feel good.”
According to Google, a shoe is a covering for the foot, typically made of leather, with a sturdy sole and not reaching above the ankle. This footwear normally has a separate heel from the sole of the shoe and is most likely shorter than the “shoe Booties.” A boot, however, is technically a sturdy item of footwear covering the foot, the ankle, and sometimes the leg below the knee. The type of footwear that reaches only just above the ankle does not fit in either category. This would be called, by many stores and businesses, a “Bootie.” “Most of our shoes are booties,” said Mason’s staff member Bailey Stull.
This common item has become a trend being seen most in the late teen to adult years of women and some of the students in our school. The footwear is seen in the later months of the year during the fall and winter seasons.“I wear them most days,” said junior Emily Watson.
Many stores in Northwest Arkansas carry this “Bootie,” including Dillards, Masons, Warrens, The Buckle, Riff Raff and many more. “I get them at Dillards or just boutiques,” said Caldera.
Online boutiques sell these “Booties” as well. More than half of the footwear on the Riff Raff website is “Booties”. These range from $240 for a pair of their “yazmin bootie” to their lowest priced shoe being their “trevor slit bootie” at $42. Out of the the 24 total pairs of shoes on the Riff Raff website, three of them are sold out, and they are all a type of “Bootie”.“We sell several each day,” said Stull
If stores do not use the term “Bootie” they split the shoes which fall into this section, into shoes and boots. The “Booties” that are sometimes suede, and occasionally lace up the front normally fall into the shoe category. However, the “Booties” that have a taller heel and look more similar to a cowgirl boot tend to fall in the boot category.“They’re easy to throw on when I’m getting ready and they look good with almost anything,” said Watson.
“I love booties! They’re cute and i wear them with most of my outfits,” said Junior Tayler Reiter
