A poet speaks like a raging storm. With a slew of abrupt metaphors and similes, she rinses your view of sugar sweet lies and facades. She grants glimpses of the merciless injustice she’s been exposed to that have been lying beneath all along.
A poet takes you on a journey. Falling like a shaking leaf from a tree, a poet’s vernacular and inflection catches you like the wind; taking you to new heights and places unseen and unknown to you. She exposes you gently to things she knows will shock, but provide the comfort of hope and notion of change.
A poet never neglects truth. Quick to inform the masses with words that leave you questioning the basis of all you thought to be true, she never shies from the truth. She is aware that she is the voice of reason, the voice of intellect, the voice of the people and she takes advantage of this in progressive ways. She carries her head held high and her soapbox tucked underneath her arm.
A poet incites change. With a list of things she advocates and ideas of change, she is the provocation. She is far from a “quiet riot”, but is instead a ground breaker, one who riles and rallies the people with fervent passion.
A poet shocks you with aptness. She always finds the right word for every situation, and always leaves you shuddering with its appropriate use, aptness, and ability to voice what you never could.
A poet possesses a skewed perspective. Every object, thumping and driven by pulse or as inanimate as a corpse’s expression, is a constant renewal of poetic passion and enkindling of creative flow. An inspiration within her mind, when expressed, is guaranteed to inspire all reached by her relentless talent.
A poet’s ways inspire a simple high school columnist to rant without reason.
