At Sullivan High School in Sullivan, Indiana, a group is throwing a separate prom, where gays and lesbians are not allowed to attend.
Now this group claims to not being “judging” LGBT(Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community) students, but to be “standing on the word of God.” I don’t know about you, but I have a really hard time fully grasping this concept. Now I may be misguided but I was under the impression that Jesus said something about loving your neighbor as would yourself. I believe that that entitles loving everyone, because you wouldn’t separate yourself from the entire society simply based on the fact of your sexuality. Perhaps I’m wrong, and I believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I thought that we lived in a society where you love your neighbor despite their differences from you.
I know that people will argue all day that they do love a person, even if they’re homosexual, they just don’t accept that they are a homosexual. That just makes no sense to me! We don’t judge people on their skin color, religion or culture, but today’s society is hell bent on hating people because of who they choose to love. I know that having friends who are gay and lesbian makes this topic more important to me than to some people, but I feel that it is a serious issue that needs to be fixed in some way.
I’ve really begun to question the moral integrity of our society today. From walking around shooting innocent civilians, to slapping another person’s baby because they won’t be quiet, I feel that ethical standards are being pushed to the wayside in order for people to be selfish and take what they want.
So I ask you to think about yourself and what you view as right and wrong. Just take a second to ponder your own self and how you view people. I think all Americans need to take a step back and reevaluate our morals and the actions we’re taking.
