With the election over and the same mediocre president back in office, the country can attempt to move forward. But for 27 states, they have other plans for the future of the country.
27 states have petitioned to secede from the U.S., most being in the Midwest and in the south. 25 thousand signatures must be collected in order for the petition to get reviewed by the administration and receive a statement. The states feel that the economic difficulties will continue to thrive and they feel the need to start a new government.
While I am not an advocate of President Obama in the least, petitioning to secede from the U.S. is going overboard. We should not follow in the footsteps of our ancestors. Attempting to secede is not only a display of ignorance, but just plain stupid. There is also a slim chance of it even passing! IF the signatures are collected, the government must consent to the secession of a United States territory.
Arkansas has joined in the effort to break away from the U.S. This makes no sense to me at all! If we are successful, how are we going to support ourselves? We must create a new government, a stable economy, a decent military and who knows what else! I believe that Arkansas is simply not large enough to govern and thrive on its own.
In my opinion, states like Texas are truly the only ones that could be successful on their own. Texas is the 15th largest economy in the world, so they would be able to take care of their citizens and not crash and burn.
To top it all off, citizens are allowed to sign the Arkansas petition even if they don’t live in Arkansas! People living hundreds of miles away can sign their John Hancock and help decide the fate of our state. This just amazes me. Why do other people get to help decide our state? It’s not their right or their area to have a voice in what the state of Arkansas does.
Breaking up the states will solve absolutely nothing. It will only help to create major tension and push the United States to divide and crumble.
