One thing that always irritates me this time of year is celebrating Christmas before Thanksgiving. I love Christmas, it is probably my favorite holiday, but I think Thanksgiving gets overlooked sometimes.
My neighbors put up their decorations and tree last weekend. They didn’t even just put them up. No, they turn them on every night!
Another instance of inappropriately early Christmas celebration is the playing of Christmas music. I work at Justice, a young girl store, and the store is already playing Christmas music, as is the Promenade when you walk from store to store.
Thanksgiving is a holiday that is meant for giving thanks, carving pumpkins and eating turkey. Thanksgiving is not about presents, snowmen and Santa. So we need to decorate as such.
Thanksgiving doesn’t need lights or inflatables, but a cute little turkey hanging in your window wouldn’t hurt.
Looking at Christmas stuff for almost two months can get a little annoying. Christmas music is sometimes very annoying and Christmas lights and hurt my eyes when I drive at night.
Hang up your lights now if you don’t think you will have the time later, but please don’t turn them on yet.
Doing these things after Thanksgiving is perfectly fine. There is a month between Thanksgiving and Christmas, which is plenty of time for everyone to see your decorations and listen to the music.
Please don’t disrespect Thanksgiving this year by celebrating Christmas too soon. Wait until after you stuff yourself full of turkey to hang up your Christmas decorations. It’ll be a great workout!
