On the weekend of Nov. 2, Disney released yet another fantastic animated movie. “Wreck-It Ralph” topped the box office with $50 million in sales on the first weekend alone. If you saw it, it’s really no mystery why.
The movie is about Ralph, played by John C. Reilly, who is the bad guy in a game called Fix-It Felix. On the day of the game’s 30th anniversary, Ralph realizes that he doesn’t want to be the bad guy anymore, but the only way to win the affections of the people of his game is to earn a medal.
The problem is, only good guys win medals. So Ralph sets out on an adventure to become the good guy.
In a typical Disney-like fashion, the story was brilliantly original. It gives video game characters a whole new life and persona that goes beyond the gamer’s screen. Any common videogamer will be able to appreciate and be entertained by “Wreck-It Ralph.”
It hilariously references games as common as Pac-Man to the violence of modern first-person shooters.
“Wreck-It Ralph” was, overall, wonderful. It’s got a rockstar cast including John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch. I give the film 4.5 stars out of 5, and my only complaint being that it wasn’t longer!
Go see “Wreck-It Ralph” if you’re a gamer, or just a fan of great Disney animation.
