Sitting in class, I was completely baffled when a student asked what the teacher was going to do to help improve his/her grade. I thought the world had gone mad! Now I’m wondering, has it?
Why is it that kids feel the need to blame their teachers for the fact that they’re failing classes? It isn’t the teacher’s fault that you have in F in their class.
The idea of studying and actually trying hard in a class is quickly deteriorating. Students feel that if they’re not getting a passing grade in a class, it just has to be the teacher’s fault.
It is YOUR grade, not anyone else’s. The teacher’s job is to educate students and help when they do not understand. However, it is not their job to do the work for the students or take the tests for them. That is the job of the student.
And in the end, our grades often reflect our work ethic. After all, we are the students. Our teachers already did their time in school. That is the reason that they are teaching and not us.
My friends like to respond to my criticism with “Well, you just think that because you’re a teacher’s kid.”
While my mom is a teacher, she works extremely hard everyday and strives to help her students succeed. So it bothers me too when kids slack off, then expect their teachers to clean up their mess.
I pride myself in the fact that I work hard and do my best in my classes. And nothing grinds my gears more than seeing a classmate drooling on their desk only to ask days later why they have multiple “Z’s” in the gradebook.
It’s time to wake up and crack open the textbooks. Studying more and focusing in class will greatly help your chances of passing your classes. Being a teenager, I know that sometimes it is hard to make yourself work, but in order to succeed in school, we must work harder.
