I apologize to anyone who is reading this and is expecting another comedy story. I will not be funny, because I’ve got a wild passion in my heart. This story could very well change the way humans have been thinking since the dawn of time.
It could, but it probably won’t. It’s about Star Wars.
Recently, the news that George Lucas sold Lucasfilms to Disney became public. Lucas plans on making three more prequel movies, taking place after “Return of the Jedi.” With the sale of Lucasfilms, also came the sale of the three movies.
Now, if you’re like me, you were deeply disturbed by the news. I can’t stress enough how surprised and upset I was when I heard the news. I thought that there was nothing to be told after “Return of the Jedi.”
SPOILER ALERT: IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE STAR WARS FILMS AND PLAN ON IT, SKIP TO PARAGRAPH FIVE.
Darth Vader died, revealed to Luke that he was his father, and saw his son with his own eyes, not through the infamous mask. Darth Sidious, or the Chancellor, was killed. The Rebels prevailed, and everyone lived happily ever after!
I was unfairly associating Disney with Disney channel. So I was imagining Selena Gomez wielding a light saber, and I was disgusted. In reality Disney was in charge of films such as “The Avengers,” and “Tron: Legacy,” both were visually striking, which is what Lucas capitalizes on for the Star Wars films.
It’s obvious that Disney didn’t spend $4 billion dollars for no reason. Regardless of how upset it may make the viewers, it’s likely that Disney will put on a good show.
Star Wars fans were outraged at the release of the prequels (Star Wars 1-3), yet all of the movies set box office records. There’s something about Star Wars that keeps fans coming for more, no matter how much they disapprove. I think Lucas just wants to make a new generation of viewers and keep the story alive. And come 2015, he will do exactly that.
