Over the summer Mitt Romney chose his running mate as the Wisconsin Republican, Paul Ryan. Not only does he have a fine head of hair for a man of his age, but he also has some big plans- big doesn’t necessarily mean smart.
It seems that the biggest topic of debate between President Obama, and Mitt Romney is Medicare. In the eyes of most Republicans, the reason Obama isn’t the right choice for re-election is his lack of leadership. Obama has done a lot of proposing, but has lacked the ability to fall through with these propositions.
For those of you who don’t know, when the President makes a proposition, it then makes its way to the House of Representatives to be approved by Congress. Well, the problem is that Congress is dominantly Republican, while the White House is Democratic. Obviously, Democrats and Republicans don’t always see eye to eye- this makes for a rather dysfunctional government.
Then, all of a sudden, Mitt Romney chooses Paul Ryan. The Knight in Shining Armor. The Republicans are banking off of economic repair by a huge cut in Medicare. 1.4 trillion dollars to be exact.
Not to disrespect the Romney- Ryan team, but what a bone-headed plan. Medicare provides health services to low-income citizens, and the elderly (65 and older). The Congressional Budget Office figures that, with the cut, at least 14 million citizens will be cut from the program. Why should you care? It’s their problem, right? Well, not exactly.
Some of these citizens will pay out of pocket for medical attention, should they need it. Unfortunately, the majority of them will be labeled as “charity care” for providers. That means that they just toss the costs to the tax-payers. So, it appears as though Ryan’s ingenious plan to cut taxes, will only create more taxes. Sorry Johnny-boy, but the bike will have to wait, Granny needs a new hip.
