“Taylor Swift found dead in her house,” said CNN News on Twitter.
I rushed to check Google to see if the popular country singer was truly pronounced dead. Of course, it was just and attempt to raise questions. With so many people in control of the media these days, it’s hard to know what to take in and what to throw out.
“Official” doesn’t mean official anymore, and rumors are all the rage. With it being so easy to re-tweet news, whether it is legitimate or not, lies can be spread faster than the blink of an eye.
Not only did CNN tweet about Taylor Swift’s fake death, but they also Morgan Freeman is dead according to their account.
How are we supposed to know what is the truth? What is real? Are they trying to spread the truth and just getting it wrong, or are they purposefully igniting the rumors.
People react too quickly. Combine that with the speed of the internet, anger shapes those rumors which spread world wide in a matter of minutes.
Sometimes I wonder if the media is just a way for people to tear down the good and praise those who do not deserve it.
If the only people who were able to control the media were in a position that they would legally have to be responsible for the lies they spread. If that was the way it was, then media, such as Twitter, would be more reliable.
