Six more Mondays. That sentence replays through my mind when I feel like falling over in class. The home stretch of the year seems to be dragging on forever.
It doesn’t sound that bad, I mean, six Mondays. But as we show up before 8:45 a.m. and stay in class until 4 p.m., the hours begin to add up. The problem is, spring break was just a little taste of what summer is going to be and makes students more and more eager to get out of school.
Along with the lag that comes with spring break, fourth quarter should be a laid back nine weeks. It’s the end of the year, and no one’s mind is in the right place. And to make it worse, AP classes have been working even harder to prepare for national exams.
I also think that the weather is a major contributer to feeling like school has been dragging on.
Usually NWA gets some snow and ice over winter with several snow days in result. Without the snow days, students have been in school longer, which makes me feel like I need another break. With the sun blaring in through the windows, all I want to do is be outside instead of cooped up in a building.
As a junior, I also feel the anticipation of being done. Seniors only have 18 days left of high school. Not only do I have another month after they leave, but a whole other year! When the seniors leave, the school will seem empty, and with fewer people in my classes, the less work I will want to do.
Knowing that I’m so close to being done for the year, makes it so much harder to stay focused on what I need to do.
With the lack of days off due to the unusual weather, the lag from spring break, seniors leaving, and being so close to the end make staying focused for the last quarter very difficult. The year seems like its never going to end.
