There comes a time in everyone’s life where we have something that we have to overcome. And in order to do that we have to face our fears, stand up and be brave. Bravery is shown in each of us every single day. We carry it with us and use it when we need it like a tool.
According to the dictionary, bravery is “showing an act of courage.” But it’s so much more. We don’t see bravery as an act of courage, but more as a part of who we are.
However, there are times were bravery is more then just an act of courage. It’s life changing, threatening, moving, and all around life-driven. It’s the soldier overseas in a fire fight with his rifle in his hands aiming at a target. He fights with a picture of his wife and newborn child in his mind hoping to himself “I’m going to make it home.”
Bravery is fighting the blazing fire trying to save someone’s home and processions. Bravery is when the police officer clocks in for his shift to protect the city. Bravery is holding your newborn child and taking on the role of parenthood. Bravery is keeping your head up and fighting, even after the doctors have only given you so long to live due to cancer.
Bravery is facing the day. Facing life. We go through the day facing challenges, never knowing what the day will throw at us. And we take that on because we have this automatic since of bravery.
Some acts of bravery are recorded in history such as the soldiers who have fought and died in wars, giving their lives for our freedom. Olympic winners have gone on to win the hardest of competitions, displaying their talents in front of millions of people.
Other acts of bravery are never even recognized.
People who live in dangerous neighborhoods must be brave when they step outside of their homes. The small kid who gets picked on must be brave when he comes to school and feels like he must hide from the bully who picks on him.
The student who works three jobs just to put themselves through school to have a better life for their family is being brave. That girl who dreads going to home must be brave because her home life isn’t great because her parents are alcoholics and beat her.
As we pass each day, let’s remember those who have been brave for us. Honor those who are brave. And we must continue to be brave for other people. When we are brave, other people are brave to. And when we are brave, we can over come anything that life may throw our way.
