As of right now, we are scheduled to start our summer vacation May 31. That is…if we can make it through the rest of February without any inclimate weather. Summer is already short enough as it is. I would much rather spend my days off in the comforting heat than in below freezing conditions. Snow days are hardly even a day off. Typically you still have to wake up early because the call isn’t made until the day of. What’s the fun in a day off if you are still awake at 6 a.m., have to stay home all day, and most likely have to go back to school the very next day.
From the end of May to mid August there is no homework, no early mornings, and no stress. Snow days don’t get you out of doing homework. Sure, you can go sledding IF it’s the right type of snow, but I would definitely prefer having a longer summer.
Another factor is end-of-course exams. They have set dates for each test. Just because you missed a week of school due to snow and missed some material, doesn’t mean it won’t be on the test. There are certain things you are supposed to comprehend by the end of the year. You will be tetsted over it whether your teachers had the time to teach it or not. Snow days don’t do much besides push your summer back farther and prevent you from preparing for massive exams.
