The light is formed by only the twinkling of the candles throughout the cafeteria as joyous Christmas songs echoed all around. The traditional Candlelight dinner and singing of Christmas melodies to share the joy of Christmas was held on December 6th and again on December 7th. The Har-Ber choir traditionally puts on this event, which includes the gathering of parents of choir students, teachers, and administration, to enjoy a spaghetti dinner catered from Mama Z’s Italian Restaurant. This event was held in the cafeteria, but you would of never guessed it was a school cafeteria due to the Christmas transformation it endured. “It’s really exciting because it’s really pretty and Christmasy, and it brings joy to the Christmas season,”said Junior Mckenzie Beyer.
The main performances were from the Bell Canto, Camerata choirs and lighthouse members, but all choir members had a part in making this night successful. The Strata choir and Select singers were the ones who served the spaghetti dinner to the family and friends who attended while the others were performing. “I performed alongside the Camerata and Lighthouse choirs,” said Junior Milly Rogers.
With many members in attendance to this yearly event, the choirs began preparing for Candlelight in October to ensure the perfection of all their pieces of music. “We have to get it perfect so it sounds really good,” said Junior Emma Crites.
Candlelight kicked off the month of December by brightening family members and friends moods, and spreading Christmas cheer by singing traditional Christmas melodies. “I love the atmosphere of the night, it’s really pretty with all the candles lighting up the entire cafeteria,” said Crites.
