For students who are accustomed to the peaceful, quiet life of Arkansas, the glamorous atmosphere of New York is enticing enough to persuade band students to fundraise over a thousand dollars for a summer trip to The Big Apple.
“What I have done to fundraise for this trip is selling sponsors for a band car wash, I have also sold chocolate bars for Cherrydale. I am currently in a fundraiser for selling Boomerang cards worth fifteen dollars and I keep half of the profit to go towards my trip to New York. I have raised about $640 of the total $1100 I need to raise,” said sophomore Ethan Jackson.
How much money the student needs to raise is dependent on how much they can contribute out of their own pocket.
“I have fundraised about $100. I want to fundraise more money because I don’t want to make my parents pay for the whole trip, especially when they are paying for both my brother and I. If I don’t raise enough money, my parents will continue to pay for the trip. Hopefully, I will raise more money as the year goes on,” said senior Ruby Espinoza.
Many students do not need to fundraise the entire fee.
“I’ve only fundraised about $200 because luckily I have parents that can pay my way to New York, but I’m sure there are people who have fundraised at least $600. We signed papers saying that we would make the payments on time and people who can’t afford the trip have been offered many opportunities to raise the money so I doubt that there has been an issue with people not raising enough funds,” said senior Tanya Villalobos.
Once students have fundraised enough, they will experience the variety of attractions that New York has to offer.
“We’re supposed to play a concert. And we’re supposed to see a show on Broadway and go to the Statue of Liberty and we’re taking a bus there,” said senior Mason Dunn.
