Sophomore Brody Lee could see the brand new football stadium. On game day, he would lace up and join his teammates as they pump each other up
Lee can imagine the hooting and hollering that would fill his ears on the big day.
As the team would burst through the blown up tunnel, baby powder would explode into the air, the student section roaring with pride.
All within their own stadium on their own campus.
“I’m excited to be able to spend my junior and senior year playing on our home field,” said Lee.
The talk of having a football stadium became a reality when the announcement was made that construction would begin.
“We’ll begin work on the stadium in January of 2013. The target date of completion is set for the Fall 2014 football season,” said head football coach Chris Wood.
The staff and student body can’t stop talking about it, due to their excitement at the prospect of a new stadium.
“Being in our stadium, we will be able to have a lot more spirit about the football team,” said sophomore center Drew Dodson.
With the stadium, school spirit is expected to be on a completely new level.
“I believe it will only get stronger for us as we can look out our cafeteria on game day and see a stadium,” said Coach Wood.
Coach Wood wants the student section in a unique place.
“I would like our student section located right behind our players, and as close to the action as possible,” said Coach Wood. “Not in a corner.
Having a football stadium not only has an effect on school spirit, but also means not sharing with the crosstown rival football team.
“We get to have our own [stadium],” said junior Quentin Chastam. “We don’t have to share it.”
With the new football stadium, the cheer and dance team will also benefit.
“It will help us with our spacing if we perform, and it will be easier to get to the game faster,” said sophomore cheerleader Mckenzie Beyers.
Having a football stadium has lots of benefits for the school. Not only do the Wildcats benefit, but the Springdale district in general. The football stadium will be something that will be treasured throughout the years.
“Now that our city has two stadiums for our two high schools, four junior highs, and the 507 kids that play youth football in Springdale,” said Coach Wood. “It’s great to have a home field advantage and stay on campus to play home games.”
