Instead of the usual musical, the students will be performing “Show stoppers: a musical medley” April 25-26. The review will consist of a mixture of songs from many classic musicals. Musicals like “Les Miserables,” “Grease,” and “West Side Story” will be featured in the review. Auditions for parts were held on March 27-28. Students sang in the choir room and danced in groups of six in the auditorium.
Junior Mary Quin tried out for the musical with the song “On my Own,” from Les Miserables. Quin was also in last year’s school musical and in this year’s production of Hamlet in 15 minutes. Quin is also in the highest choir, Camerata.
“They place you in the part they think you would best fit,” said Quin.
Junior Jacob Reynolds, first chair in Mens all-region, also tried out for the musical review.
“I sang ‘Can you feel the love tonight’ by Elton John. It’s one of the songs we’re doing for the review and it’s one of my favorite songs anyways,” said Reynolds, who
prepared for his audition by practicing.
“I practiced a whole bunch of times,” said Reynolds.
Before the audition, Reynolds was nervous but ultimately got a call back.
“I think I did pretty good. I sucked at dancing, but my singing was pretty good. I’m just not coordinated,” said Reynolds.
Junior Zack McGowen also tried out for the review.
“I sang ‘The Cave’ by Mumford and Sons, because I’ve tried out with it before. It’s a song I really like and I know the words,” said McGowen, who practiced on the way to school and before the tryouts with an accompanist track.
While others practiced for their auditions, sophomore Catherine Campbell did not have the same opportunity.
“I hadn’t remembered that auditions were that day until 30 minutes until the auditions,” said Campbell.
Quin, Reynolds, McGowen, and Campbell all received a call back.
“I think everyone else did pretty good. There was lots of good singers and good dancers that tried out,” said McGowen.
