When Mrs.Lamb asked senior Jessie Gallaher to be a part of Ms. Har-Ber High School last year, she had no idea she would win the title of Ms.HBHS with such short notice.
“It was kind of last minute.” said Gallaher.
The pageant includes numerous events, ranging from fashion to photography.
“During the day before the pageant you do a five minute interview with the judges, then you do an opening number or dance with all the girls, then you do an on stage question in buisness wear and then one in an evening gown,” said Gallaher.
The pageant also offers an optional talent portion and photogenic portion which Gallaher didn’t choose to do while senior Hailey Hendrix did.
“I performed for the talent part so I practiced a lot for that,” said Hendrix.
Girls gain much more than just some flowers and rewards from participating in the pageant. It builds friendships and breaks girls out of their shell as well as boosts confidence.
“I got to meet a lot of new girls. It helps with public speaking and I got a scholarship for about $100 from liberty bank,” said Gallaher.
Girls don’t only join the pageant to win but also to grow as a person and to be a part of something that touches people of all ages.
“I really don’t care about winning,” said Hendrix. “I’m just trying to have fun and break out of my shell. I like watching the little kids on stage before we go on.”.
There is also a portion before the Ms. HBHS pageant for little girls to compete in.
“Little kids have their own small pageant and do routines. The queen from last year asks the kids questions and is a form of the host,” said Hendrix.
Ms. Har-Ber High School offers wonderful opportunities to all who choose to participate in it and has helped many girls break out of their comfort zone and grow into more outgoing individuals. For all the girls intending on participating in this years “And the clock strikes midnight..” themed Ms. HBHS pageant, applications are due Jan. 9, 2013. Practice will be held Jan. 31, 2013 and the pageant will be held February 2, 2013.
