Recently, AP US History teacher, John Stewart, presented the Intermediate Design Class with a rare opportunity for design experience that they have not yet faced. Mr. Stewart is beginning a business in which he produces fresh, and apparently legitimately tasty, salsa.
The product is called “Grumpy Ed’s Salsa,” and senior Intermediate Design student, Karley Siemens, seems to think highly of the product.
“First it’s super juicy and fresh, then it’s really sweet, and then it’s super super hot. It leaves a really good aftertaste, and it makes you want more,” said Siemens.
His salsa is delicious on the inside, but he came to the Intermediate Design class hoping that they could make it look good on the outside. He presented them with the task of designing a label, and students such as Siemens and senior Ethan Wilson are very excited about it.
“It’s a big step up from being in the intro class. It feels like we’re a functioning part of a graphic design firm,” Wilson said.
“Design is something I look forward to doing in the future,” Siemens agreed. “I’m very stoked.”
According to the students working on the label design, Mr. Stewart is serious about acknowledging their efforts.
“One thing they promised us was to give us credit for it,” said Siemens. “It will help build my portfolio for colleges and jobs and such.”
