Senior camerata choir member Conner Doyle steps onto the risers, and choir directors Randy Erwin and Clint Pianalto begin the long practice of songs that were learned three months ago.
“We’re polishing, and trying to improve, but at the same time, trying not to kill it,” said Doyle.
The camerata choir traveled to Texas March 29 for a contest held at a high school in San Antonio.
“It will help our choir be able to compete against different schools, instead of the same local schools,” said Doyle.
The choir will be singing “Prayer of the Middle Ages”, “O Nata Lux”, and “Ezeuiel Saw De Wheel” for the contest. The members feel confident with the performance.
“My favorite would have to be Ezekiel’,” said junior camerata member Austin Hazelton. “The story behind the song is crazy, and it’s a very upbeat and fun song, and when we come out to sing, you know we came to give you a sweet show.”
Preparations for the contest began while preparing for the Choral Performance Assessment, another contest the choir attended. The songs were learned months ago, and ever since the choir has been polishing for San Antonio.
“We practice our pieces over and over and over again,” said junior choir member Madison Lisle. “Other than that, we will just follow Mr. Erwin’s tentative itinerary.”
The choir will also sight-see while on the trip. While in the city, the members will visit the Alamo, walk and eat on the Riverwalk, and end with a group trip to Six Flags amusement park where the awards will take place.
“The thing I am looking forward to the most is just the thought of a ‘get away’,” said Hazelton. “Being with my friends and away from home is going to be awesome.”
The trip to San Antonio is being seen as a great experience for the choir members in more ways than one.
“This trip will be of huge benefits in many ways for our choir,” said Lisle. “Not only will we gain great experience singing in competition with different choirs, but I feel this trip will only bring us closer as a choir with all of the activities we will be doing together. It will be a great bonding experience.”
